Bitcoin (BTC/USD) Lot Size Calculator for The Funded Trader
Quick Answer
For BTCUSD, each pip is worth $1 per lot. With a typical 500-point stop loss (reasonable given Bitcoin's 2000-point daily range), 1% risk on a $100,000 account means you can trade 0.2 lots maximum.

Instrument Guide
Bitcoin position sizing is fundamentally different from traditional forex due to its extreme volatility and unique price structure. With an average daily range of 2000 points, Bitcoin moves roughly 10 times more than major currency pairs, demanding much wider stop losses and smaller position sizes.
The 2000-point daily range means realistic stop losses should be 300-800 points minimum. Anything tighter gets stopped out by normal market noise. I typically use 500-600 point stops for swing trades and 300-400 for scalping during lower volatility sessions.
Worked example with 1% risk on $100,000 account: With a 500-point stop, your risk is $500 (500 points × $1 × lot size). To limit risk to $1000 (1%), trade 0.2 lots maximum. For 2% risk ($2000), you could trade 0.4 lots with the same stop.
For a more conservative 800-point stop: 1% risk allows 0.125 lots, while 2% risk allows 0.25 lots. The math is straightforward: Risk Amount ÷ (Stop Loss Points × $1) = Maximum Lot Size.
Bitcoin suits The Funded Trader's 8% profit target well since large moves can generate substantial profits quickly. However, the 0% daily loss and drawdown limits are extremely restrictive for Bitcoin's volatility. Even with perfect position sizing, Bitcoin's intraday swings can easily trigger these limits through temporary unrealized losses before profitable reversals. Most successful Bitcoin traders need at least 3-5% drawdown tolerance to handle normal volatility. Consider this instrument only if you have exceptional timing and can handle the psychological pressure of zero-tolerance risk management.
